The Orlando Magic don’t have much P.T. for rookies

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by admin on Thursday 12 January 2012 at 1:53 am

22-year old power forward Justin Harper has not had much of a chance to show what he can do.  He has played in 3 games (0 starts) for the Magic so far this year and he has played six minutes in which has has recorded 1 assist.  The Magic have a lot of depth in the frontcourt and they are all about playing the veterans in an attempt to get Dwight Howard to change his mind and stay around a few more years.  With that in mind, don’t look for Harper to get much P.T. this year unless the Magic suffer a lot of injuries along the frontline.

Daniel Orton of the Orlando Magic has knee surgery

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries,Rookie Reports by admin on Thursday 23 December 2010 at 3:04 am

20-year old rookie center Daniel Orton has had surgery on his left knee.  The surgery will keep him out until at least the NBA All-Star break in February.  This is a bad break for Orton who was not likely to play much as a rookie anyway this year.  This injury is going to put him even further behind in his development.

The Orlando Magic send Daniel Orton to the D-League

Blogged under Big Magic News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by admin on Thursday 2 December 2010 at 12:51 am

The Magic have sent rookie center Daniel Orton to the New Mexico Thunderbirds of the D-League.  Orton got off to a slow start this year due to injury so he didn’t really have a chance to make the Magic out of training camp.  Orton should get some quality P.T. in the D-League and he will need to get some experience before he’s ready to take on NBA centers.

Courtney Lee isn’t getting much P.T. for the Orlando Magic

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Thursday 27 November 2008 at 3:02 am

Rookie guard/forward Courtney Lee won’t get much playing time for the Magic this season unless they suffer some injuries with the team making a run for the NBA Title. Lee has played in 9 games for the Magic this season and he is averaging 10.4 minutes, 2.4 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. Lee will likely only play in blowout wins or losses this season for the Magic.

The Orlando Magic didn’t have minutes for rookie Marcin Gortat

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Wednesday 21 May 2008 at 8:57 am

F/C Marcin Gortat didn’t get to play much as a rookie for the Magic last season but he was effective when given the chance. Gortat played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Magic last season and he averaged 6.8 minutes, 3.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Gortat appears to have some upside so it will be interesting to see if they get him a few minutes next season.

Marcin Gortat might be able to help the Orlando Magic some time in the future

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Sunday 2 March 2008 at 2:19 pm

Gortat is a 7’0″, 240 pound rookie from Poland. The Magic want him to bulk up just a bit more before they trust him with any playing time. He has only played in 1 game (0 starts) this season for the Magic and he played 2 minutes and scored 2 points and grabbed a rebound.

The rookies of the Orlando Magic earn a D

Many more Duke players fail in the NBA that make it so drafting one is always risky.  Still, the Magic couldn’t really pass on J.J. Redick based on how well he played in college.  He played in 42 games for the Magic and averaged 14.8 minutes, 6.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.  Redick only shot 41% from the floor, but, he hit 38.8% of his three-point shots and 90% of his free-throws.  It’s hard to say at this point whether Redick will be a good player or just another Duke stiff.  Only time will tell.  F/C James Augustine only played in 2 games this season and he averaged 1.0 point, 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.

Magic finally letting J.J. Redick play some

Blogged under Front Page,Rookie Reports by Nothing but Net on Saturday 3 February 2007 at 10:55 pm

J.J. Redick is finally getting some playing time and he’s shooting well from long range.  Redick is only hitting 39.6% from the floor, but he’s hitting 42.9% of his three point shots for the season.  He has played in 13 games this season and is averaging 13.2 minutes, 4.8 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists.  The Magic could really use Redick if he could step up because they are having problems scoring as of late.

Rookie James Augustine has only played in 1 game this season.  He played 4.7 minutes and scored 2 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and dished out 2 assists.

Rookies not getting much PT

Blogged under Front Page,Rookie Reports by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 13 December 2006 at 12:05 am

The Magic is playing to good right now to worry about getting rookies playing time.  First round pick JJ Redick has only played in 2 games this season and has averaged 6.7 minutes, 3.0 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.5 assists per game so far this season.

Rookie forward James Augustine has yet to step on the floor.
