The Orlando Magic will be without Jameer Nelson for a while

Blogged under Big Magic News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries,Need to step up by admin on Tuesday 31 January 2012 at 1:02 am

The Orlando Magic are going to be without 29-year old point guard Jameer Nelson for at least the next week due to a concussion.  Nelson has played in 18 games (all starts) so far this year for the Magic and he is averaging 28.8 minutes, 8.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game on only 38.7% shooting from the floor.  He will be replaced in the starting lineup by 29-year old Chris Duhon.  Duhon has played in 20 games (2 starts) for the Magic so far this year and he is averaging 19.5 minutes, 3.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.  Duhon is hitting 46.7% from three point range (14 of 30) so far this year and that is outstanding.  Duhon might be able to do a decent job while Nelson is out of action.

The Orlando Magic lose Brandon Bass for a week or two

Blogged under Big Magic News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by admin on Thursday 3 February 2011 at 12:54 am

Starting power forward Brandon Bass will miss the next 1-2 weeks due to an ankle injury.  Bass has played in 49 games (26 starts) for the Magic so far this year and he is averaging 24.8 minutes, 11.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.  Bass has done a really solid job since entering the starting lineup as he gives Dwight Howard some inside support.  Ryan Anderson will likely replace Bass in the starting lineup.  Anderson has played in 31 games (4 starts) so far this year and he is averaging 19.5 minutes, 10.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  Anderson will do a good job for the Magic but they will need someone to step up off the bench to replace Anderson’s offensive spark.  Gilbert Arenas might be that guy.

Daniel Orton of the Orlando Magic has knee surgery

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries,Rookie Reports by admin on Thursday 23 December 2010 at 3:04 am

20-year old rookie center Daniel Orton has had surgery on his left knee.  The surgery will keep him out until at least the NBA All-Star break in February.  This is a bad break for Orton who was not likely to play much as a rookie anyway this year.  This injury is going to put him even further behind in his development.

Vince Carter sprains toe, leaves game for Orlando Magic

Blogged under Big Magic News,Bloglockers,General,Injuries,NBA Blogs by Andrew on Sunday 28 March 2010 at 11:29 pm

Vince Carter logged only two minutes for the Orlando Magic in their 103-97 win over the Denver Nuggets Sunday night.  Carter sprained his right big toe while playing defense and left the game with 10:25 left in the first quarter.  Its not clear how long the injury will keep Carter out, but X-rays were negative so he may not miss much time.  You never know with Carter though,  since he seems to be made of glass and can’t stay healthy.  He was already playing through a sprained right ankle so I would think the Magic may give him at least a few games off.  The Magic have already been playing without another key wing player in Michael Pietrus.  The only good news out of all this is that J.J. Redick stepped up big on Sunday.  Redick had a career night, playing 46 minutes and going 8-15 for 23 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds.

The Orlando Magic lose Jameer Nelson for a while

Blogged under Big Magic News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by alleyoop on Tuesday 17 November 2009 at 10:33 pm

The Magic will be without Jameer Nelson for the next 4-6 weeks due to arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Nelson has played in 11 games (all starts) for the Magic this season and he is averaging 29.6 minutes, 13.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Veteran Jason Williams will replace Nelson in the starting lineup while he is out of action. Williams has played in 11 games (0 starts) this season for the Magic and he is averaging 18.4 minutes, 5.4 points, 1.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. This hurts the Magic as they are at their best with Nelson running the offense, but, Williams will likely do a decent job while he is out of action.

The Orlando Magic lose Adonal Foyle

Blogged under Big Magic News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by alleyoop on Saturday 24 October 2009 at 7:19 am

The Magic have lost third string center Adonal Foyle indefinately due to knee surgery. This won’t be too big of a loss for the Magic as Foyle was going to have a hard time getting minutes this season. In fact, unless Dwight Howard or Marcin Gortat get injured he wasn’t going to likely even get 100 minutes this whole season.

Tony Battie to miss a lot of time for the Orlando Magic

Blogged under Big Magic News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injuries by alleyoop on Friday 28 September 2007 at 11:53 pm

Reserve power forward/center Tony Battie has a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder and he should miss a substanial part of the season.  Battie played in 66 games last season and he averaged 6.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.  The Magic are darn lucky that they signed Adonal Foyle who will now get major minutes as the main backup power forward and center of the Magic.

Tony Battie nearing return

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 20 February 2007 at 3:49 pm

Power Forward Tony Battie is nearing his return from an injured thumb.  It is not all the way healed yet but he’s going to try to tough it out.  The Magic really need him back because their depth has really took a big hit with the rash of injuries that have hit the team.  Battie is averaging 6.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season.

Keyon Dooling to miss some time

Blogged under Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Sunday 4 February 2007 at 1:33 pm

Keyon Dooling is out indefinately with a strained thumb.  He has played in 37 games and is averaging 23.2 minutes, 8.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.  The Magic will probably give rookie J.J. Redick and Travis Diener increased playing time while Dooling is out.

Grant Hill to miss time

Blogged under Big Magic News,Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Friday 2 February 2007 at 1:32 pm

Grant Hill will miss 2-3 weeks with a Grade 1 MCL Sprain of the right knee.  The Magic will miss Grant Hill a lot on the court as he’s their second best player on the team.  Hill has averaged 15.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game this season.  Keith Bogans and Darko Milicic will likely gets bumps in playing time.  Bogans is averaging 4.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.  Milicic is averaging 7.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game this season.  The Magic will need Bogans & Milicic to match the numbers that Hill was putting up on offense.
