The Orlando Magic need to improve a bit in the second half

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 22 February 2011 at 2:37 pm

The Orlando Magic went into the All-Star break with a 36-21 record which has them in 2nd place in the Southeast Division, 5.5 games behind the Heat.  The Magic are currently the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference, 5.5 games behind the Celtics & Heat.  They are also 3.5 games behind the Bulls for the #2 seed.  But, the Magic are only 1 game ahead of the Hawks for the #4 seed so they need to finish the regular season strongly or they will have to go on the road in the first round of the playoffs.

BIGGEST SURPRISE:  22-year old forward Ryan Anderson has been very solid off the bench for the Magic this season.  He has played in 39 games (11 starts) for the Magic so far this year and he is averaging 20.8 minutes, 10.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  Anderson has been a long range assassin for the Magic off the bench and he has been an all-around offense force when on the court.  The Magic need him to keep up the good work.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:  29-year old guard Gilbert Arenas has not been the player the Magic thought they were getting when they made the Rashard Lewis deal with the Wizards.  Arenas has played in 30 games (0 starts) for the Magic this season and he is averaging 21.7 minutes, 7.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.  Agent Zero is only shooting 34.5% from the floor, 25% from three point range and 69% from the free throw line with the Magic.  The Magic need Arenas to show signs of life the rest of the year.

Dwight Howard is doing his part for the Orlando Magic

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Friday 11 February 2011 at 11:54 pm

25-year old center Dwight Howard is doing more than his part for the Orlando Magic lately.  Howard has played in 5 games in February (the Magic are 3-2) in which he is averaging 41.2 minutes, 23.8 points, 16.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game.  He has now played in 52 games (all starts) for the Magic so far this year and he is averaging 36.7 minutes, 22.5 points, 13.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.1 blocked shots per game.  Howard is by far the best center in the NBA, without a doubt, but the Magic won’t get back to the NBA Finals any time soon unless some other players start stepping up.  The big trade the Magic made with the Suns has not helped them at all so far.
