The Orlando Magic have traded guard Keyon Dooling to the Nets for cash considerations. Dooling played in 72 games (1 start) for the Magic last season and he averaged 18.5 minutes, 8.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. The Magic felt that Dooling was expendable due to the recent acquisitions of Mickael Pietrus and Anthony Johnson.

The Orlando Magic have signed backup point guard Anthony Johnson to a 2-year, $3.8 million dollar contract. The 33-year old Johnson will back up Jameer Nelson this season. He played in 69 games (52 starts) last season for the Hawks and Kings and he averaged 22.2 minutes, 5.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Johnson should be able to give the Magic 15-20 decent minutes per night off the bench. He has now played in 682 games (237 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 20.0 minutes, 5.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. This was a nice signing for the Magic.

The Magic have signed G/F Mickael Pietrus to a multi year contract. Pietrus is 25 years old and he is 6′6″, 215 pounds and he should be the starting shooting guard for the Magic this season. He is a decent offensive player but his strength is on defense which will be a welcome addition to the Magic. Pietrus played in 66 games (16 starts) with the Warriors last season and he averaged 26.9 minutes, 7.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Pietrus has now played in 310 games (97 starts) in his NBA career and he have averaged 21.0 minutes, 8.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. One area in Pietrus’ game needs to improve and it’s shooting free throws as he has only hit 66.2% of his shots from the line. Still, this was a good move for the Magic as they have made their starting lineup even stronger than it was last season.
